The Dash Cams can be installed in any vehicle with an OBD-II port, which powers the unit. However, some features that rely on direct communication over CANBUS (such as engine fault code retrieval) may not be available.
If your vehicle doesn't have an OBD-II port, you can use an alternative power source, such as a 12-volt auxiliary adaptor. However, this may result in the loss of certain features since the Dash Cams are only powered when the engine is active.
For semi-trucks with a J1939 port, you'll need a J1939 to OBD-II adapter to use the Dash Cams.
For electric vehicles like the Tesla Model 3 or other models without an OBD-II port, you'll need to purchase a 12-volt auxiliary port to OBD-II adaptor for installation.
Although the Dash Cams are compatible with older vehicles with an OBD-II port, their behavior may vary. For example, in some cases, displays may turn off when idling for longer than 5 minutes. It's important to note that the CANBUS protocol became mandatory for all vehicles sold in North America from 2008 onwards, whereas before 2008, various protocols were used across car manufacturers, with only some using CANBUS.
